The production was asked to take some photos from the FAT Ice Race event, and bring as many cool photos as possible which could be used in Magazine Veteran.
Even though we were asked to take “some photos” we were also asked to record the atmosphere of the let’s say festival. The goal was to provide a Slovak TV Show with some shots which would be used in one of their episodes. We planned, organized a gear, tested the gear and went photo and video hunting. We moved around the airport and round the frozen circuit to find cool spots where we could capture the right moment, the right atmosphere of the event. It took us 8+ hours to fill our cars with 6000+ photos and some 400+ shots. We managed to choose and edit some of the images and transcode all shots for TV standards and deliver the content the next day after the event.

The main objective of the FAT Ice Race at Zell am See in Austria was to take as many photos as possible, haha! Imagine this, classic card, sport cars, rally cars, all at the same place. One airport and lots of snow, what could possibly go wrong. This wasn’t a job for one person, we took our whole production, we brought three cameras, one for video, and two for photos. High end Canon EOS R1 with RF 70-200mm f/2.8 Z, and R6 Mark III with 24-105mm f/2.8 Z, yes as you may know we used video lenses, however! These are the best in class; they have internal zoom. We needed it, it was cold and at the end of the day we were covered with snow – like a snow man! We tested the R6 Mark III for high-speed motorsport photos. It did great, even though the camera feels small in my hands it captured the speed.
The end result was to document the motorsport event. Again, thanks to Veteran SK and vintagedistrict.sk editor-in-chief Samuel Vanko we could attend the event. Our production is into cars. What a ride! What a festival. We can’t wait to be there next year!
